THINGS TO DO, PLACES TO GO, WILDLIFE TO SEE: Jackson Hole, Wyoming

What began in the early 1800's as a hunting territory for legendary beaver trapper Davey Jackson, is now recognized as the nation's premier mountain playground. When it comes to great vacation towns, few offer as wide a range of multi-seasonal activities as Jackson, Wyoming. Located in the heart of the 19 million-acre Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem - which encompasses Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks - Jackson draws an international array of visitors who come to ski, golf, hike, fish, bike, river raft, and climb within the shadow of the staggeringly beautiful Teton Mountains.

In the winter, skiers and snowboarders can choose from any of three local ski resorts: Snow King, Jackson Hole and Grand Targhee. Snow King Resort, within the town of Jackson, provides immediate winter access to skiing, snowboarding, tubing and ice-skating. Jackson Hole Mountain Resort boasts the area's largest ski mountain, with 2,500 acres and 76 trails. It also has the country's largest vertical drop, continuously declining 4,139 feet from the resort's summit to the base. Grand Targhee Resort is an hour from Jackson Hole, but is a powder lover's paradise. Ski Magazine recently rated their snowfall quality as #2 in all of North America. Other popular winter activities include snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and dogsledding.

Jackson Hole summers are as enticing as the winters. Mountain biking, hiking, rock climbing, fly-fishing, river rafting, and hot air balloon rides are only a few of the accessible recreational diversions. In 2002, Golf Digest and Conde Nast Traveler ranked the Teton Pines Country Club as one the top 75 golf resorts in America. Average summer temperatures are perfect for outdoor recreation, ranging from 68° to 79°, June through September.

For a different adventure, many visitors tour Yellowstone National Park. Founded in March of 1872, Yellowstone is the first and oldest national park in the world. Nearly three million tourists visit the park each year to explore the stunning scenery and to catch a glimpse of bison, elk, grizzly bear or wolves. Yellowstone is also home to over 10,000 natural hot springs and the preserved Old Faithful Geyser.

Additionally, Grand Teton National Park is only 15 miles from Jackson. Here you'll find twelve Teton peaks standing above 12,000 feet, including the Grand Teton at an elevation of 13,770 feet. The park attracts over two-and-a-half million visitors each year who come for the stunning scenery and world famous alpinism.

For those that fall in love with all that Jackson Hole offers, real estate opportunities span the valley. Buyers can choose from homes, condominiums and private residence clubs to find their ideal vacation retreat. The Residence Club at Teton Pines combines second homeownership with country club and golf course privileges. Four Seasons is building their first ski-in, ski-out residence club at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, scheduled to open summer, 2003.

Discover for yourself why Jackson Hole is the nation's mountain town par excellence, in any season.

Jackson Hole Vacations Made Easier

If you're visiting Jackson Hole, chances are the last thing you want to do with your irreplaceable vacation time is shop for groceries. Fortunately, you don't have to. Pre-arrival shopping services are the latest trend in saving valuable time and eliminating unnecessary hassles so that you can truly vacation on your holiday.

Whether you're returning to your second home or visiting Jackson Hole for the first time, local companies like Vacation Time Savers Inc. or The Flying Tomato will stock your refrigerator and kitchen with food, beverages, snacks and incidentals prior to arrival. At private residence clubs such as The Residence Club at Teton Pines, club management provides pre-arrival shopping.

In most cases, pre-arrival shoppers request that you complete and submit a shopping list of the items you wish to receive. As an example, Vacation Time Savers has a printable order form on their website for fax orders. Other vacationers may choose to use PDA shopping software, designed to maintain lists of needed groceries, among other things.

No matter how you place your order, pre-arrival shopping services are a convenient way to prepare for a memorable Jackson Hole vacation. Equally important, The Flying Tomato promotes that its "service saves gasoline, reduces emissions, traffic, parking spaces and is healthy for our valley."
